In under two weeks, this baby came to life in all of its fabulous splendour.
Collaborating with the fine folk from Akcelo, the two social media shorts featured a pride parade full of dancing queer folk, an elaborate wedding cake themed ‘diamond and disco’, and even a unicorn! Read on to find out how we put on our cupid and brought it all together.
It was delicious working with the tasty illustrations that designer / animator Jess Fogarty put together for us – her styleframes were the key ingredient.
One of our core strengths as a studio is our ability to work in a multitude of visual styles & technical approaches. A ‘Frankenstein’ technical approach allows us to combine techniques such as 3D, cel & rigged 2D animation together to create a unique but cohesive result.
In order to bring our vibrant pride parade to life there may or may not have been some questionable self shot animation reference photos & videos floating around the office – they will never see the light of day. Collaborator Jeric Ilagan did a fabulous job brining life to some of our key cel animated characters.
Sometimes getting riggy with it is the right approach. Character rigging allows flexibility to easily take on feedback and tweak as we go, not locking into decisions and for some of our team it’s the ingredient of choice.
Whatever the technique, we always open our minds to use the right tool for the right job. Limber from Animatable and Rubber Hose from Battle Axe are the usual suspects in our office.
